What to Expect During you Visit:

We will review your medical health and medications. Further, the doctor will complete a thorough evaluation of your symptoms of low testosterone.

-The doctor will set up a plan custom tailored to your unique situation.
-Aromatase inhibitors are often prescribed by the doctor to avoid excess estrogen production and reduce any possibility of glandular information to the chest or breast development.
-Repeat testosterone levels will be taken at eight weeks to assure that appropriate supplementation is being injected.
-Patients are given the option of injecting testosterone doses at home or to come to the office for weekly injections.
-It should be anticipated that the typical dose of testosterone injection is 100mg - 250mg IM each week.

-Symptoms of low testosterone levels are more important to follow than the actual numerical figures. Proper supplementation reflects a patient that is optimized as best as possible for his chronological age.

Why Does Testosterone Need to be Replaced?

Hormones -- chemical messengers that coordinate vital processes -- control most of your body's functions, such as:
  • Growth
  • Fertility
  • Brain function
Throughout your life, your hormone levels increase and decrease naturally, depending on the needs of your body at any given time. Testosterone, which is the primary male sex hormone, is responsible for your sexual health, and much more, including:
  • Muscle and bone mass
  • Hair growth
  • Fat distribution
  • Production of red cells
Male hypogonadism (Low-T)-- the failure of the testes to produce androgen, sperm, or both -- creates a condition that leads to low testosterone levels. These lowered levels can cause several problems, including:
  • Low energy
  • Low sex drive
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Loss of muscle and bone mass
  • Mental fogginess
  • Depression
  • Lack of motivation
  • Grumpy moods or easily agitated (yes ladies that’s correct, maybe he is grumpy for a medical reason)
If your are experiencing ANY of these symptoms, it’s time to get evaluated!  There is no reason to continually suffering in silence.   If your symptoms are truly caused by Low-T, the great news is that most men respond very well to replacement therapy.  Don’t wait until feeling bad becomes “normal”!

What is testosterone replacement therapy and is it really necessary?

Testosterone replacement is commonly misunderstood and mistakenly thought of as an elective procedure by those who do not understand endocrinology or the significance of symptoms caused by the condition.   A Low circulating level of testosterone is a serious and major health concern.

According to the Mayo Clinic publication in July of 2016 © “TD (testosterone deficiency or hypogonadism) is a well-established, significant medical condition that negatively affects male sexuality, reproduction, general health, and quality of life”.

Hypogonadism is not a “foo foo” or insignificant condition and studies have linked low-T to increase in heart disease, diabetes, increased visceral fat, and depression.

If the practitioners  at Men’s Health Chicago determine that you have male hypogonadism, they will evaluate your options for treatment.  The Gold Standard is testosterone replacement therapy for patients who do not have contraindications (other conditions preventing replacement).

This therapy replaces your testosterone to restore your testosterone to normal levels. Testosterone replacement therapy provides what nature is no longer able, and reverses the effects that low testosterone has on your physical and mental well-being.
Testosterone replacement therapy is not for everyone. Often, a gradual decline in testosterone levels is a natural part of aging, and shouldn’t be manipulated or halted in the absence of symptomatology. However, if the drop occurs in younger of middle aged men, is sudden or dramatic and affects your health considerably, you may have hypogonadism,  and this therapy offers an effective solution to a condition that can have a serious and negative impact on your health and wellness.
