How CO2RE Differs
Almost every medical spa offers a fractional resurfacing procedure – Fraxel, ActiveFX and ProFractional to name a few – but the CO2RE differs by using two types of laser beams that penetrate to different depths – simultaneously. The CO2RE has up to 7 treatment modes to treat a variety of skin issues. The CO2RE offers less discomfort and dramatic results after just one session. The CO2RE (by Candela) Carbon Dioxide (C02) Fractional Laser Resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method (columns of skin are removed, leaving the skin surrounding each column intact to aid in healing) to help reduce “age-spots” (also called sun freckles, liver spots, and lentigines), fine lines, wrinkles, scarring, uneven coloration, skin laxity, textural irregularities, dull tone, and a thinned collagen layer of the face, neck, and chest. CO2RE is the best treatment if you wish to get the most results with one treatment. If you have the ability to take some time to heal (7-14 days), having this one treatment is like having multiple other non-invasive treatments at once. It is also the best single treatment for advanced skin damage and wrinkling. CO2RE is an in-office procedure that requires pre and post-treatment medications to ensure proper healing and comfort during the procedure. Discomfort varies on the depth of the treatment. For your comfort during the treatment, we may apply a topical anesthetic or inject local anesthetic and/or tumescent anesthetic and prescribe sedative medications to reduce discomfort. After the treatment most patients describe the post-procedure feeling as a bad sunburn for about 12 hours to 2 days. Please also follow the instructions for all other prescribed pain medication is needed post treatment. We also recommend pain or relaxation medications prior to treatment therefore you will need to have somebody drive you home after treatment. Typically one laser treatment with C02RE is recommended. Occasionally, in an area that cannot be treated aggressively, we may need to do more than one treatment to optimize results. Maintenance treatments may also be necessary to maintain results, especially if sun is not avoided or proper skin care used. Occasionally, even with the best care, another treatment may be necessary in a few years (in the area around the eyes, it may only be 1-2 years). What is the CO2RE procedure like? You can expect some moderate discomfort during the treatment, but the anesthetic applied prior to the procedure typically makes any discomfort tolerable. For more aggressive, higher power treatments, your practitioner may recommend a subcutaneous anesthetic, oral pain relievers and/or sedatives during the treatment session. Over-the-counter pain relievers may be taken in the days after the procedure to alleviate any residual discomfort. How do I know if CO2RE treatments are right for me? Ideal candidates for CO2RE are in their 30’s or older with skin damaged by exposure to the sun, age spots, fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, rough texture, acne scars, and other skin imperfections. It is ideal for anyone seeking younger looking skin without the long downtime associated with conventional resurfacing procedures. Is CO2RE safe? Yes. You should speak with your practitioner about your complete medical and skin history to minimize the potential for any negative reactions. How many CO2RE treatments will I need? Generally you will see the difference you want after only one treatment. In the days after the treatment your skin will gradually look softer, smoother and tighter. The fine lines wrinkles, age spots and uneven textures will start to show immediate improvement. How long will the results last? The durability of CO2RE results approaches that of surgical procedures. However, there are a number of variables that will determine how long you can expect the results to last including: your health, age and how you care for your skin after treatment. Do I need to take any special precautions after treatment? Your practitioner may recommend a short course of antibiotics to minimize any risk of infection. Use of a moisturizer and sun screen is highly recommended during the healing process and for the weeks and months following treatment. What can I expect after my procedure? Immediately following the procedure you can expect a sensation similar to a sunburn, lasting several hours. You can expect peeling of dead skin from the treatment area. This is a natural exfoliation process that may last 7-10 days. |
