CO2 Laser Resurfacing Q & A

What is CO2 laser resurfacing?

CO2 laser resurfacing is a cosmetic treatment that reduces skin blemishes and common signs of aging including:

  • Age spots
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven coloration
  • Skin laxity
  • Rough or pitted skin
  • Dull skin tone
  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Thinning collagen on the face, neck, and chest

Dr. Din and his team use the CO2RE Aesthetics system, a cutting-edge technology that unlike many CO2 lasers uses two different laser beams at the same time to treat the skin on two layers. CO2RE is able to treat all skin types effectively and safely.

How does CO2 laser resurfacing work?

CO2RE laser resurfacing is a fractional method of rejuvenating the skin, meaning it removes skin layers to expose new, unblemished skin underneath. The lasers in CO2RE also create microlesions on the skin’s surface that stimulate the growth of new collagen fibers, a process known as neocollagenesis. After your CO2RE treatment, your body responds to the microlesions by initiating new collagen production, a process that’s entirely natural and safe.

How uncomfortable is CO2 laser resurfacing treatment?

CO2  laser resurfacing is a more aggressive form of treatment than other noninvasive options, but it has the advantage that you can achieve the results you want in just one session, and it’s the solution most effective at correcting serious skin damage and deep wrinkles.

Dr. Din uses topical anesthetic cream or injects a local anesthetic before the procedure, and he may recommend a sedative to ensure you don’t feel too much discomfort during your treatment. Afterward, your skin may feel like it’s been sunburned, but this shouldn’t last more than a few days.

The CO2RE Aesthetics device is designed to keep discomfort to a minimum while having the desired effect on your skin. CO2 laser resurfacing does involve ablation, which is the removal of a layer of skin, so it’s bound to cause a degree of discomfort; but you can manage this with pain and relaxation medications.

How quickly will I see the results of CO2RE treatment?

Most clients only need a single CO2 laser resurfacing session, although in more sensitive areas an extra treatment session might be necessary. You’ll see an immediate improvement in fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and rough or pitted skin, and over the following days and weeks, your skin starts to look softer, smoother, and tighter. The improvement continues over the next few months as your body produces more new collagen.

The length of time you can expect the rejuvenating effects to last vary depending on your health, age, and skin care routine. Generally, results are highly durable, and it could well be some years before you need any further treatments.*

If you wish to improve your appearance without having to undergo a surgical face-lift, CO2 laser resurfacing could be the answer. To find out how it could work for you, call Flawless Image Medical Aesthetics today, or book an appointment online.
